About Me

I am an Associate Professor of Economics. I’ve grown up in Kolkata, India. Environmental issues and sustainable growth practices are my passion, particularly in emerging economies. My current research questions focus on examining the effectiveness of environmental policies such as petrol and diesel taxes, and to what extent they influence consumer behavior: Do people reduce their fossil fuel purchases in Delhi and Kolkata? Are people induced to buying smaller, fuel-efficient vehicles? More recently, I’m getting interested in policies that help achieve a better balance between much needed economic growth and preserving natural resources such as wetlands and mangrove forests in the developing world
