One common element in all my undergraduate courses is that I teach my students to become critical and proficient newspaper readers. Depending on the class, students have to either post weekly or bi-weekly urban/environmental news blogs relating to topics we have covered in class. They are encouraged to follow environmental news stories in major newspapers or research case studies in other reputable media outlets, often cross-referencing it with the academic materials we discussed in class. You can check out some of the urban and environmental news stories my students have written about on the blog sites listed below. Another amazing student-created site to check out is the “Moved by Nature” webpage that documents our Winter 2020 Trip to Sweden and Denmark. We visited nature schools and studied the Scandinavian approach to outdoor education.
