Have you thought about how you will fulfill the SUA mission to be “global citizens committed to living a contributive life”? There are many places you could go after INTS and SUA. It is useful to think about your career path early on- this is not just to be on track to get a job and pay the rent, but also because the right career may position you to help change the world in some small way.
SUA graduates concentrating in INTS have gone on to a wide range of careers. Many of our students might ask what a Liberal Arts degree can get you on the job market? Studies (see bottom of page) have shown that Liberal Arts graduates may take longer to find the right career, but once hired, have a better track record of promotion due to being adaptable, self-motivated critical thinkers.
Graduates may find work in many different sectors:
Non-Governmental Organizations: Examples range from the Carter Center and Democracy International to smaller, community NGOs in various countries.
International Organizations: United Nations, UNDP.
Government: Foreign services, embassies, various ministries (environmental protection), the State Department.
Social Work: Peace Corps, education, migrant and refugee services (i.e., NGOs that help recent arrivals find work and adapt).
Fulbright Scholars: Various SUA students have successfully attained Fulbright support for various projects around the world. See SUA Fulbright chair Sarah England.
Law: Many INTS students go on to law school, including at Duke University and Georgetown, en route to employment in law.
Business: Students have gone on to work in consulting firms, cyber security, and more.
First, prepare early by understanding yourself and what abilities and interests you have while identifying the areas in which you will make the greatest impact. Then, you must know what steps to take to lead you in the direction of your goals.
