On November 8th, INTS faculty Tetsushi Ogata and Ian Read engaged in a productive conversation with more than ten students regarding SUA’s engagement with global news and issues. Topics discussed: the role of Facebook in conveying news and its limitations as a forum for discussion; an SUA supported news radio show or podcast; ways to bring speakers representing diverse points of view to campus.

Shane Barter publishes new article in Regional Studies
INTS Professor Shane Barter has published a new article in Regional Studies, now available online. The article explores the treatment of local, second-order minorities in autonomous regions dominated by national, first-order minorities. The article is available here.
SUA Conference: Disease and Disease Control in Eras of Globalization
On Friday and Saturday, 22-23 September, Soka University of America will host a variety of experts to discuss approaches to disease control in the contemporary world. Organized by INTS professors Ian Read and Michael Weiner, this promises to be a fascinating event!

Professors Shane Barter and Michael Weiner have released a new edited textbook, The Pacific Basin: An Introduction, published by Routledge Press. The book features chapters by a range of Soka University of America Professors, including Lisa MacLeod, Ian Read, and Sarah England from INTS.

INTS Professor Michael Weiner promoted to Associate Dean of Faculty
INTS Professor Michael Weiner has been promoted from Assistant Dean of Faculty to Associate Dean of Faculty. He will be taking on new administrative roles and will play an integral part in shaping the policies of the Dean’s office going forward.

Dr. Ian Read becomes new Director of International Studies
Beginning in the 2017-18 Academic year, Dr. Ian Read will serve as the Director of INTS. He is taking the reins from Dr. Lisa MacLeod, whose long tenure is deeply appreciated by INTS faculty and students.
