Below are several excellent (and short) documents about online teaching.

This document prepared by Susan Walsh provides a concise summary of the book Small Teaching Online. Susan has summarized the main points in just 5 pages, and includes useful external links in the document. Susan also wanted to point out that these are her own notes and interpretation so someone else reading the book might highlight different material or see it a different way.

This document prepared by Phat Vu is a 4-page distillation of “best practices” and resources for online teaching.   This document was compiled based on faculty discussions, emails, and polls. In a sentence, Phat’s guide points out that the “best practices” of online teaching/learning includes 5 main elements: be available for your students, use intentional design for your course, build community in your course, motivate your students, be flexible, and keep things simple. The document provides more detail on all of those points.
